The Long Shadow

One after the other, the rose petals fell. Wet in the morning dew, they didn’t drift far.

The sun peaked over the horizon, and he turned to leave her.

His shadow cast over her, but she wasn’t ready.

She couldn’t let go. Not yet. Not like this.

She ran into the horizon, where she could hold him in her embrace. Tears spilt like roses from her cheeks. They burst into existence – sharp, beautiful and brief.

“Don’t leave me,” She cried, as she held him.

But she held nothing, and his shadow left her.

He was gone.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to separate emotions and thoughts.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to realise we desire things we can’t have.

It’s hard to let go, but if we can’t let go. We can’t move on.
